Gourishankar is what Osho called Mount Everest, the highest mountain peak, representing the height of human consciousness on this planet. This is a nighttime meditation, designed to help open the third eye – the door to inner wisdom as well as cosmic consciousness. This is an hour long meditation and is best done with a pre-recorded CD.
Stage 1:
Steady Rhythmic Breathing – 15 minutes
Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Inhale deeply through the nose and fill your lungs with as much air as possible. Hold your breath for as long as you can, then exhale gently through the mouth. Empty the lungs completely and hold your breath for as long as you can. Inhale again through the nose and continue breathing in this pattern. After fifteen minutes, the music will change, indicating the beginning of the second stage.
Stage 2:
Gazing at a Light –15 minutes
Return to normal breathing. Open your eyes and with a gentle gaze look at a candle flame or a flashing blue light (the flashing light should be a synchronized strobe). Keep your body still and focus on the light. Watch your breath and any thoughts that may arise without engaging with them. Simply look at the light. When the music changes, it is time to move to the third stage.
Stage 3:
Spontaneous Body Movement–15 minutes
Stand up and close your eyes. Let your body be loose and natural and allow it to move to the sound of the music. Be receptive to the music and don’t control the movements. Allow the movements to arise spontaneously. The body always knows how it must move in order to balance its inner energies. Simply remain a witness to the movements and allow the body to move as it needs and wants.
Stage 4:
Silence – 15 minutes
Lie down and be still, allowing the energies to integrate. The gong will indicate the end of the meditation.
You can practice this meditation alone or in a group.
